Suzhou by night

Don't trust the Lonely Planet (or the version we had anyway). It described Suzhou as 'the Venice of China', and indeed it is very nice. Well part of it is very nice, the other 95% is an urban sprawl, that can only be described as the Coventry of China. The best place is near the Suzhou Mingtown Hostel, where a night time stroll looks something like this.
